Many teams took advantage of Christmas Break to compete in out-of-state tournaments.  Several teams and individuals had great success traveling to tournaments in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas.  Coweta got it started, winning a tournament in Louisiana, followed by Marlow winning a dual tournament in Missouri.  After Christmas, Ft. Gibson won a tournament in Alabama and Catoosa won a dual tournament in Arkansas.   In girl’s tournaments, Sand Springs won a tournament in Arkansas, McLoud placed 2nd in a dual tournament in Texas and Union placed 3rd out of 30 teams in a tournament in Missouri.  Staying in-state, Yukon won the Southern Oklahoma Ladies Invitational.

Paced by champion Azreal Smith and four other placers, Tulsa Union placed 3rd in the loaded 30-team Wonder Women Tournament.  In addition to Smith, Aiyana Perkins and Terrilan Banner placed 3rd, with Dakota Harris placing 6th and Jessina Smith in 8th.

Azreal Smith had falls in :25, 1:38 and :17 before picking up a reversal and near-fall to earn a tough 6-3 tie-breaker win to advance to the finals.  Smith won the title with her fourth 1st period fall of the tournament, getting a fall in 1:16 to capture the 235 lb. title.

Bixby’s Millie Azlin had falls in :22, :19, 1:29 and 2:41 to easily advance to the finals.  Azlin used a 1st period takedown and 3rd period escape to win the finals 3-0 and improve her season record to 16-0.

Meeting in the consolation semifinals, in a battle of Oklahoma state champions, Bixby’s 2X state champion Jadyn Roller earned a 7-4 win over Hannah Lopez (Moore).  Roller ended up 4th and Lopez 5th at 110 lbs.
