Number One Ranked Central Oklahoma in NCAA Division II knocked off Number Two Ranked power house and Three-Time Defending National Champions St. Cloud State 19 to 14 to win the prestigious NWCA National Duals.
To be more precise on how big of a win this was for Central Oklahoma, the Broncos haven’t won the National Duals since 2002 and the Huskies from St. Cloud State have won the last four dual championships as well as the last three NCAA Division II Championships and was riding a 74-match win streak that dates back to 2017.
The SCSU Huskies certainly had the team strength to win it all last year as well, however, due to Covid-19 concerns, last years National Duals and NCAA National tournament were canceled leaving this year in anticipated hopes of resuming both events. (Incidentally, COVID-19 protocols knocked out nine teams from both the Division II and Division III fields, making them 15-team brackets instead of 24).
The good news this year however, was that six ranked teams in the top 25 featuring No 1 UCO, No. 2 St. Cloud State, No. 3 McKendree, No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 8 Indianapolis and No. 9 Findlay all participated by traveling to the International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
