Bixby took the drive down the turnpike to Moore High School to take on the Lady Lions of Moore. This was a good back and forth dual between two really well coached teams.
The Lady Lions had won 16 strait duals dating back to the 21-22 season. The Spartans of Bixby put an end to the win streak for the Lions on Tuesday night with a hard fought 43-33 dual win.
We saw a lot of great match ups here tonight. Two of the featured matches that we got to see were matchups against nationally ranked girls. Roller VS. Lopez was a battle of the the number 21(Lopez) and 27 (Roller) girls in the nation at 105 and Bernal ranked 13 at 125 VS. Kemp who is ranked 29 nationally at 135.
Moore started off with a pin by Kylee Smith at 100. Brooklyn Noel kept the early momentum with a 7-3 win over state placer Lily Lane.
The Spartans took a forfeit from Moore at 110 to cut the lead to 9-6.
Two time State champion from Bixby Jaydn Roller moved up to 115 to take on Returning state champion Hannah Lopez. This was a great back and forth match. Lopez picked up a hard fought win over Roller with a pin in the third to make it 15-6. Faith Sarres of Moore scored a second period fall over of Bixby to make it 21-6.
Bixby would get 2 consecutive pins at 125 and 130 to cut the lead to 21-18.
Brissa Bernal bumped up to 135 to take on Returning state champion Shelby Kemp. Bernal picked up a 3-1 Overtime victory over Kemp to tie the dual up at 21.
Bixby received a forfeit at 140 to take a 6 point lead. Bixby s Jay’la Ford picked up a major 14-1 over Saria Rivera to make it 31-21.
Grace Huffman picked up a first period pin to make it 31-27.
Millie Azlin picked up a first period fall to make it 37-27. Bixby received a forfeit at 190 that secured the win and made it 43-27.
Moore picked up a fall at 235 to make it 43-33. Bixby won a hard fought dual and the Lions giving up 18 points in forfeits was just to much to overcome.
I loved the interaction between the two teams during the matches. All of the girls were into the matches and the crowd that showed up was given their moneys worth.
Match Breakdowns:
(100) Kylee Smith of Moore came out and hit a single leg and went to work on top. Smith used a barb wire to pin Kennedy Postier of Bixby to make it 6-0
(105) Lily Lane of Bixby misses on a headlock. Noel passed it by got a takedown. We go to the second with Noel up 2-0. Lane defers and Noel chooses neutral. Lane neck wrenches Noel. Noel fights off back before any nearfall points are awarded. Noel gets reversal to make it 4-2. I to the third period and Lane chose neutral. Noel works single leg and rides out Lane after the takedown. Noel win match and Moore takes a 9-0 lead
(110) Bixbys Darlene Loera received forfeit to make 9-6
(115) Hannah Lopez and Roller start off with a lot of hand fighting and Roller tries control the ties with snap down into front headlock. Lopez does a great job of controlling the elbow but was not able to drag out. Roller got a takedown with about 5 seconds left in the first. Lopez chose down and was able to get up to her feet to cut the lead to 2-1. Lopez looked to take a few shots but was unable to get any offense going and go to third down 2-1. Roller chose neutral and Lopez went on the offensive down 2-1 Lopez hit a fireman and was able to expose Rollers back. Lopez hit a reverse half and picked up the third period pin to make it 15-6…
