The former Stillwater High School product is listed as a freshman 141-pound wrestler for the Cowboys.
That comes after a late switch on his college plans as the 2021 graduate was initially heading to wrestle for Northwestern.
“I been working my whole life to wrestle in college and how it’s here and I will make the most out of it and enjoy it while I’m there,” Young said.
He didn’t go into great detail about why he transferred but one of the Northwestern coaches he was working with closely, Jimmy Kennedy, was reportedly fired by the school last month.
Young headed to Northwestern after graduating high school and had been putting in work with the other Wildcats. Kennedy was one of the coaches that got onto the mat with the wrestlers and Young talks with reverence when speaking of him.
He noted the practices at the D-I level are much more intense than high school workouts.
