After a much needed break for the holidays, we are back in action for a weeknight dual to kick off the new year. The Piedmont Wildcats make the short trip south to take on the Mustang Broncos. With midseason rankings, the Wildcats come in as the #8 ranked team in 6A. Mustang is hosting for Senior Night. Shoutout to the seniors who are recognized tonight!
106 Blake Thomas (Piedmont) vs Trustyn Douglas (Mustang). Both guys are feeling each other out to start. Good scramble off of Thomas shot, but Douglas wins the scramble and goes up 2-0 to end the period. Douglas goes down and gets into another scramble off the peterson for the reversal. A deep power-half for a set of backs and a takedown in the 3rd period, give Douglas the major decision win 9-0 to get things started for the Broncos. Piedmont 0 Mustang 4
113 Van Smith (Mustang) vs. Brody Heusel (Piedmont). Smith is another young freshman for the Broncos who is already making a splash on the high school scene, coming in ranked #4. Smith hits a nasty fireman to score the takedown and near fall to start the match. Smith gets the reversal and a tough ride in the 2nd period with a set of backs to go up 9-0 to end period 2. Smith looks toughhh on top as he gets another set of backs and a takedown with near fall right at the buzzer to secure the tech-fall, final score 16-1. Piedmont 0 Mustang 9
120 Cash Donell (Piedmont) vs. Jace Reed (Mustang). Donell is the returning state champion at 120 and has recently committed to the University of Oklahoma. Donell wastes no time as he runs through a double leg and locks up a roll through tilt for backs. Donell runs a bar/wing to get the first period fall and get the Wildcats on the board. Piedmont 6 Mustang 9
