4A Boys State Preview

Tuttle once again comes in as a heavy favorite to claim the Class 4A state championship. The Tigers, winners of the last 14 state titles, qualified 13 wrestlers for the State Tournament, including eight regional champions. While Tuttle ran away with the West Regional title, the East Regional had a great battle with Sallisaw pulling out a two-point win over Catoosa to capture their first regional title since 2011.

Winning regional titles for Tuttle were Maxwell Bradley, Cooper Jackson, Chance Fisher, Thomas London, Beau Hickman, Eli Probst, Ethan Teague and Shawn Rounsaville, with Bode Wilson, Beau Tinder, and Jace Warren adding runner-up finishes. Hickman is a junior and already a 2X state champion, enters the tournament with a 116-12 career record. Teague, also a junior, was a state runner-up in 2022 and state champion last year. Teague is 34-0 this year and has a 103-12 career record. Rounsaville and Abston were state runners-up last year, with Fisher placing 3rd and Warren placing 4th.

The race for the runner-up trophy will likely come from the east regional with Sallisaw, Catoosa, Cascia Hall and Bristow battling for the trophy. Sallisaw has 10 state qualifiers, including regional champions, Cason Craft, Cole Mayfield, and Bodie Adams. Brody Mills earned a runner-up finish, with Mason Duke, Hunter Smith and Noah Flores all placing 3rd. Craft is undefeated this year, carrying a 34-0 record into the State Tournament. Mayfield, a 2023 state champion is 35-1 this year and has a 110-8 career record. Adams placed 4th at state last year. He is 31-2 this year with a career record of 61-9.

Cascia Hall took home the runner-up trophy last year and with five regional champions that have combined to win five state titles and five other state medals, they are in good shape to do it again. The five have an amazing combined record of 143-5 entering the State Tournament. Treshuan Tecson is the only senior in the group and has gone 3-4-1 at the State Tournament. The rest are juniors as Gerald Harris III is a 2X state champion, Miles Velasquez won state in 2022 and was 3rd last year, Cory Velasquez won state in 2022 and was runner-up last year and Camden Webb placed 3rd at state last year. Tecson is 31-1 with a 125-13 career record. Harris is 32-1 with 108-8 career record. Miles is 25-1 with 67-5 career record. Cory is 22-1 with 86-7 career record. Webb is 33-1 with 93-14 career record.

Catoosa is sending 10 to state with Mason Burnham winning a regional title. 2nd place finishers for Catoosa were Logan Hargrove, Tucker Collinsworth, Seth Charles, and Cael Eremita. Catoosa suffered a blow when top seed and returning state placer Aiven Robbins was injured in the semifinals and unable to continue to wrestle.

A young Bristow team (one senior, one junior, two sophomores and four freshman) had eight state qualifiers with Haydan Yocham winning a regional title. Javon Freeman and Chandler Fortney earned runner-up finishes with Kale Fruits, and Hudson Claggett placing 3rd. Youcham, who placed 3rd at state last year as a freshman, is 30-1 this season and has a 54-6 career record.

Sulphur has six state qualifiers including regional champions Baer Webb and Justus Gilliam. Gilliam, a junior, is a 2X state runner-up and enters the State Tournament with a perfect 29-0 record and a career record of 95-7. Webb placed 4th at state last year, is 21-1 this season, with a career record of 80-17.
