3rd Annual Cache Wrestle Like a Girl Tournament Recap

The 3rd annual Cache Wrestle like a girl tournament did not disappoint. The team race saw Broken Arrow hold off the Moore Lions 152 to 140 with Edmond North finishing 3rd with 110 and WestMoore finishing out the top 4 with 108.5.  Broken Arrow under second year coach Tori Liles had a strong showing this weekend. She definitely has the Tigers headed in the right direction. Moore put 3 in the finals with and made a run at the team title but came up a little short. Edmond North came in third, the Williams sisters were both impressive for the Huskies. Bella Williams won at 130 and pinned her way through the tournament. Freshman Clover Williams was involved in the match of the tournament  in the finals against returning State champion Shelby Kemp. Clover came up just short losing 4-3. Something tells me this won’t be the last time these 2 will see each other this year. WestMoore came in with a solid 4th place finish. The Jags put 4 in the finals, winning the 100, 105, and 110 weights classes.

The tournament ran smoothly on Friday afternoon with just the HS wrestling. The HS girls were able to wrestle all the way to the semis. On Saturday it was a bit chaotic but well worth the wait to the semis and the finals. There were a total of 221 HS entries and 268 JHS entries for a total of 489 total entries. The finals were ran on the center mat only. The girls teams all sat around the center mat and watched the finals together and cheered on there teammates and their piers. The tournament awarded O.W. to a lower weight and a upper weight. WestMoores Mariah Robbins had a outstanding performance and was awarded the O.W. for lower weights. Robbins has put in a lot of work over the summer and in the wrestling room and it’s beginning to pay off.

Kaylee Davis of El Reno pinned her way through the tournament and was dominate all weekend. Davis the 2 time state champion is working closer and closer to getting her 100th career win. Good luck the rest of this year trying to accomplish that Kaylee. The Cache tournament directors have done a great job at continuing to grow this great early season tournament and have also listened to all the other coaches issues and corrected them to help to better and grow the tournament each year. With that being said let’s start both HS and JHS on Friday so we can all get  home just a little bit earlier and we don’t have to worry about the 6 match rule that the Kingfisher JHS wrestler Delissa Evans had to deal with and NC out of the consolation semis. I’m hoping to see some North Texas and Panhandle teams come up to Cache next year!
