3A Dual State Qualifiers

Congratulations to Class 3A Dual State qualifiers, Marlow, Comanche, Perry, Blackwell, Salina, Cascia Hall, Sperry, and Pawnee!  With Class 3A already finished with their District Duals, thought we would do a quick recap of the district champions and take a look at the history of the teams competing at Dual State.

The Class 3A Dual State Tournament will take place along with Class 5A on Saturday, February 10 at the Stride Bank Center in Enid (Class 4A and 6A go on Friday).  Quarterfinals start at 10:00 with Semifinals at 2:00 and Finals at 6:30.

The seeding and brackets have not been released yet, but listed below are the most current rankings from the OSSAA Rankings Page.  The rankings are a cumulative vote from the Class 3A coaches over the past five weeks.

FINALS

Blackwell defeated Marlow, 38-32

Blackwell defeated Sperry, 62-9

Marlow defeated Sulphur, 57-15

QUARTERFINALS

Blackwell defeated Hinton, 63-15

Marlow defeated Berryhill, 55-18

Sperry defeated Perry, 34-33 (won on criteria, most matches won)

Sulphur defeated Jay, 40-36

DUAL STATE HISTORY

Dual State started in 1989, with Perry, Blackwell, Marlow, Comanche and Sperry being regular qualifiers for the tournament, led by Perry which has qualified in 34 of the 36 Dual State Tournaments.  This is Blackwell’s 28th trip to Dual State, followed by Marlow (24), Comanche (23) and Sperry (18) in the number of times to qualify for Dual State.

This is Cascia Hall’s 8th time to qualify for Dual State, but their first time since 2013.  Pawnee has qualified six times with their last appearance being in 2022.  Salina is making their 4th appearance at Dual State, with their first year to qualify coming in 2018 and their last appearance in 2022.  

Perry has won 20 Dual State titles, winning 16 titles in 17 years from 2003-2019, including winning 11 straight titles from 2009-2019.  Marlow has been in the Dual State finals 14 times, winning five titles, including back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.  Sperry has won two Dual State titles, including wining the 1st Dual State championship in 1989 and adding a 2nd title in 1992.  Blackwell has been in the finals eight times, winning two titles, with the first coming in 1991 and winning last year’s title with a 38-32 win over Marlow in the finals.
