WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 29) – Being without six starters was no problem for top-ranked Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon.
The Bronchos won six of the eight matches contested while also picking up two forfeits in cruising past outmanned Central Missouri 30-6,
improving to 11-1 on the season and 3-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.
It was the 30th win in the last 31 outings for UCO, which stayed perfect against the Mules (45-0) in its final road dual of the season.
“It wasn’t real pretty, but we’ll take it,” said seventh-year head coach Todd Steidley, who improved to 84-12 with the Bronchos. “We stood around too much and didn’t do a whole lot offensively, which was disappointing.
“We held some guys out and thankfully we have the depth to do that. I thought the backups wrestled hard and I’m proud of what they bring to the team. We need to get everybody healthy and ready to go for the last two duals.”
UCO ends the dual season at home, taking on No. 8 Adams State Friday night before finishing against No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney on Feb. 12. The Bronchos will have a couple of weeks off after that before hosting the NCAA Division II Regional IV Tournament on Feb. 26.
