Team Oklahoma 16U Girls Greco takes 4th at 2024 USA Women’s National Duals

Westfield, IN – The state’s most best Greco state team took to the National Duals with the goal of becoming national champions. Although the young women of Team Oklahoma came up short of their goal, they demonstrated that come Fargo, they will once again be in the mix for a title.

Entering day two and advancing to the “Gold and Silver” Championship Pool, Oklahoma faced three traditionally strong states. In their opening round, Oklahoma matched up with Texas Blue and faced little struggle as they gathered their Greco prowess and advanced with a 36-31 victory.

Round two posed a different challenge as Oklahoma faced Indiana. Known for being a tough competitor, Indiana provided an exciting dual that pushed Oklahoma forward in momentum.

With the dual opening at 235 pounds, Paige Wainscott took to the mat for Oklahoma and got the dual rolling with a fall at 0:47. Oklahoma took a 6-0 lead in the team score. Indiana answered at 88 pounds with a decision of 7-4, but Oklahoma regained their footing quickly.

The next several matches saw a mix of victories for both teams. Kylee Tran (88) secured a win by decision, and Dakota Harris (100) followed with a fall. These matches produced a lead of 12-6 in team points for Oklahoma. The dual remained tight as Indiana fought back with a series of wins, but Oklahoma held on to their lead with victories from Katelyn Patterson (106) and Brooklynn Church (112).

Heading into the final match of the dual, Oklahoma was leading 43-28. Indiana sent Brooklyn Neece to the mat, but Oklahoma’s Charly Heath had other plans. Heath secured a fall at 0:22, sealing the dual with a final score of 43-28 in Oklahoma’s favor.

Now, Oklahoma faced a tough Ohio team. Despite a valiant effort, Oklahoma was unable to keep Ohio from scoring multiple shutouts. Ohio won the dual 48-22, sending Oklahoma to the third-place match against California.

In the third-place match, Oklahoma started strong with Kenzie Johnson securing a fall at 1:24. However, California proved to be a formidable opponent. Oklahoma’s Clover Williams (136) and Teegan Steward (142) managed to secure a decision and a fall respectively, but it wasn’t enough to counter California’s dominant performance. California won the dual 37-26, placing Oklahoma in fourth place.

With their showing, Oklahoma must believe that a Fargo title in Junior Greco is a very realistic possibility when the time comes—and the country is aware of that possibility as well. Best of luck, girls.
