OSU vs Bucknell: Preview & Predictions

#7 Oklahoma State (0-0) at Bucknell (0-0)

All Time Record vs: 6-0

Last season the Cowboys beat the Bison 32-6 in a dominant late season dual. However, that was the dual that Wyatt Sheets and Travis Wittlake were both upset in. Both appeared to have suffered the significant injuries that hampered them in the postseason. This will be Ok State’s second dual of the day in Pennsylvania, traveling to Lewisburg after taking on Lehigh earlier in Bethlehem.

While not the strongest team, this will be a good opportunity for fans to get a good look at the lineup to start the season. Bucknell recently competed at the Clarion Open, but not all expected starters competed, so expect a potentially fluid lineup. Here are some things to look out for as the Cowboy’s kick off the season on the road.

Top Matchups

While the Bison don’t have too many ranked wrestlers, there are two ranked matchups that could get interesting. At 141lbs, Young will see Darren Miller, who he beat 8-3 last season. A more decisive win would be a strong point towards his improvement this offseason. Look for Young to try and show off some improved top wrestling and work for some turns to try and get the major.

While not as highly ranked, the match at 157lbs could be even more intriguing as Wyatt Sheets gets an opportunity at revenge. Last season, Sheets was injured in the match against Nick Delp and lost a close 7-5 decision. Now healthy, Sheets will be looking to show that last season was due to injury and get a ranked win early in the season.

Underrated Test for Voinovich

In his first time out as the starter, Voinovich is likely to see back-to-back unranked but tough opponents. Lehigh has had unranked Max Brignola starting and going 2-0, while Kolby DePron returns as Bucknell’s starter. Like Voinovich, DePron is a second year wrestler, but he started as a true freshman with a 23-13 record.
