Oklahoma Sooners: NCAA Day 2

After three sessions the Sooners were out of the tournament with six points and sitting in 40th place. That’s their lowest point total and placement since 2018 with just one point at 56th place. This is also their first tournament without a single wrestler in the bloodround since 2018 as well. They didn’t necessarily have a bad showing based on seeds, but some wrestlers that had opportunities to break the bracket struggled. Seniors Mitch Moore and Joey Prata were unable to break onto the podium, while their highest seeded wrestler Mosha Schwartz suffered an upset loss in the second round of consolations.

133lbs: (24) Wyatt Henson – DNP (1-2)

  • 1st Round: (9) Micky Phillippi, Pitt Dec. Wyatt Henson (5-2)
  • Consolations: Wyatt Henson Dec. (25) Kurt Phipps, Bucknell (7-2)
  • Consolations: (7) Michael Colaiocco, Penn Fall Wyatt Henson (1:31)

Henson looked like he could go on another consolation tear after day I, but that ended quickly. Colaiocco got a quick takedown and took Henson over for the pin. Henson had a strong second postseason, and showed flashes of what he could be at this weight. He’ll be someone to watch after a year in the lineup….
