Oklahoma 6A State Wrestling Recap

Wrestling at its best! The Class 6A State Wrestling Tournament was an incredibly entertaining event with some of the nation’s top wrestlers, intense competition and a team race that came down to the last match. It took a record-breaking performance for Stillwater to claim their 3rd straight state championship, with Edmond North just one point behind and Bixby finishing in 3rd place.

Going in, most knew that it was going to be a battle between the national powers and that is exactly what happened. Just looking at the placers shows that Stillwater, Edmond North and Bixby had 30 wrestlers place in the top three. Breaking it down showed that the three teams claimed the following medals.

  • 11 of the 14 champions (Stillwater – 4, Bixby – 4, Edmond North – 3)
  • 21 of the 28 finalists (Stillwater – 4, Edmond North – 4, Bixby 2)
  • 30 of the 42 top 3 medalists (Edmond North – 5, Stillwater – 3, Bixby – 1)

Stillwater placed an amazing 11 wrestlers with four champions (Aydan Thomas, Cael Hughes, LaDarion Lockett and Landyn Sommer) to win the Class 6A state championship with a Class 6A state record 191 points. Other placers for the Pioneers were 2nd place medalists Beric Jordan, JJ (Rogers) McComas, Kael Voinovich, and AJ Heeg, 3rd place finishers Sam Smith, Mitchell Borynack and Cameron Johnson)…
