Oklahoma 3A State Wrestling Recap

The Class 3A State Tournament was supposed to be a shootout between Blackwell and Marlow, but Blackwell put an end to any suspense with an incredible performance to win the state title by 48 points over 2nd place Marlow. Blackwell brought 12 wrestlers to the State Tournament and ten earned state medals, with Kaiden Ailey, Jake Miller, and Kruz Goff all winning state titles. Marlow had seven medalists with Tommy Miller and Cade Gilbert winning state titles. Berryhill put five in the finals and finished in 3rd place.

Blackwell came ready to wrestle and opened the tournament on Friday morning with five straight falls, taking a lead they never relinquished. The Maroons went 8-3 in the first round, with all of the wins being bonus point wins, including six falls to open up a seven point lead. Marlow went 7-3 in the first round with four falls and a tech fall.  

The all-important semifinal round came with lots of fireworks, but by the end of the night, Blackwell had put five in the finals, winning four matches that were either toss-ups or they were the underdogs. Kaiden Ailey started the semifinal run for Blackwell with an impressive 9-4 win over 2021 state champion Devin Duran. The Blackwell crowd erupted when freshman Jake Miller scored a huge 5-4 win over Marlow state runner-up Brantz Bateman. At 175, it was a battle of 2022 state runner-ups, but Blackwell’s Jason Osgood jumped to an 8-0 lead before pinning Jay’s Kaden Murray. At 190, returning state champion Kruz Goff picked up his second 1st period fall of the tournament and then senior Kolby Looper capped the impressive first day performance by Blackwell with a 6-4 sudden victory win over east regional champion Easton Malone from Barnsdall…
