NEO Finishes Day One Of The NJCAA Tournament in Fifth Place

A bit of an up and down day for the NEO Norsemen at the NJCAA National Tournament leaves them in fifth place after day one.

The first round went well for NEO. Fall after fall landed NEO with five in the quarterfinals and four still going on the consolation side. Pushing 133, 141, 157, 174, and 197 into the quarters combined with that barrage of bonus points left NEO just one point away from second place headed into the quarterfinal session.

The quarterfinal round did not bode as well for NEO. They lost all five matches and dropped a consolation bout at 125 that ended the tournament for Dalen Moore. Moore was up 6-0 on Matt Ash when he injured his shoulder. He attempted to continue wrestling but was eventually pinned.

At this point they were around 10th place in the team race then things suddenly turned on their head. A 7-1 round on the consolation side with just one loss at 133, combined with a few bonus point wins, brought NEO back to fifth in the team race and secured seven All-American finishes.

The following seven wrestlers have secured top eight finishes, and tomorrow will have the opportunity to move even further up the placement ladder.

  • 141-Blake Gonzalez
  • 149-Dylan Brown
  • 157-Josh Parks
  • 174-Dayton Fields
  • 184-Jackson White
  • 197-Seth Sarasua
  • 285-Dan Baker
