Former OSU star Jordan Oliver is one step closer, plus Oklahoma results

Former OSU star Jordan Oliver is one step closer to accomplishing his life-long dream of competing in the Olympics as he battled through a loaded field to win the Olympic Team Trials at 65 KG. Oliver received a bye in the first round, then defeated Nick Lee 8-3 in the quarterfinals (Lee went on to place 3rd with consolation victories over number one seed Zane Retherford and number two seed Yianni Diakomihalis). In the semifinals Oliver, the number three seed, scored a big win over training partner Yianni Diakomihalis.

In the finals, Oliver faced Joseph McKenna who had defeated Retherford 8-5 in the semifinals. Oliver swept McKenna in two straight matches to win the title. Oliver is still one step away from competing in the Olympics as the United States has not qualified that weight for the Olympics. He will compete in a Last Chance Olympic Qualifier set for May 6-9 in Bulgaria with the two-two finishers qualifying their country for the Olympic Games.

Current OSU stars Daton Fix and A.J. Ferrari also competed, but did not place. Fix won by tech fall over Sean Russell before falling 7-5 to Vitali Arujau in the semifinals. Ferrari, a crowd favorite at the tournament taking place in Fort Worth, dropped two close matches to Michael Macchiavello and Ben Honis.
