Five things to watch as OU takes on Arizona State on Friday

By Seth Duckworth

The start of the OU wrestling season is this Friday and they kick things off when one of their biggest matchups of the season. Arizona State, ranked 11th in the most recent NWCA coaches poll will be in Norman on Friday to wrestle the 19th ranked Sooners.

Here are five things to look for in this big matchup for OU.

1.The debut of Mitch Moore

One of the more intriguing pieces of the OU lineup this season is Virginia Tech transfer and projected starter at 149 pounds Mitch Moore. Moore was a two-time NCAA qualifier for Tech and the 2019 ACC freshman of the year. Moore was a huge offseason pickup for OU and is expected to be an anchor in their lineup this season. OU may need some bonus from him here to pick up a dual win.

  1. 197 Jake Woodley vs. Kordell Norfleet

This is a nice matchup. On paper, Norfleet is the favorite but Woodley looked really strong at U23s a few months ago where he picked up the 92 KG title. If he’s carried that momentum into this dual he could pull the upset. It will be interesting to see if he does and could be a huge swing match in this dual.

  1. Who comes out at 125?
