Early Thoughts: Oklahoma State Lineup

Last year OSU had a strong season that ended up being hampered by injuries leading to a disappointing finish. They started the year 10-0 in duals before significant injuries took AJ Ferrari out of the lineup and set back quite a few other wrestlers. They finished 3-4 in their last seven duals, followed by a 4th place Big 12 finish and a 14th place finish at NCAA’s. However, OSU was a young team and returns seven high-level starters. The loss of AJ Ferrari is significant, but the team has the depth to move other wrestlers around and have a strong lineup with new faces.

125lbs: #11 Trevor Mastrogiovanni

Last Years Starter: Trevor Mastrogiovanni

Mastrogiovanni is a former blue chip recruit that has appeared to improve every year as a starter. He went from a 5th place Big 12 finish to 3rd and had wins over highly ranked wrestlers Pat McKee of Minnesota, Brody Teske of UNI, and Taylor LaMont of UVU. His disappointing NCAA’s was more related to a tough draw, as he lost to two All-Americans. Mastrogiovanni has struggled with being banged up throughout the season, battling a wrist and rib injury last year. If he can improve on bottom and stay healthy, then I’d be surprised if he wasn’t making the podium at a stacked weight class.
